Sine wave profile

What is Sine wave profile?

The system belongs to the rain-screen family (wall cladding installed with a ventilated air space). This self-supporting system can easily be installed on a non-continuous supporting structure. sine wave profiles are installed on a metal framework fixed to the supporting structure (masonry or metal structure). The variety of effects which can be obtained from the play of light and shadow on sine wave panels.

All necessary flashings shall be minimum 0.7 mm thick in Zinc plus. All other fixing accessories should be in accordance with the design recommended by VMZINC.

What is Zinc plus?

Zinc plus is VMZINC coated on the underside with a protective layer (VMZINC patent).

  • Allows the use of an incompatible roof deck.
  • Zinc plus products can be bent, folded or profiled without any surface change (similar to VMZINC products) and thus allow the exact methods of laying.
  • No need to ventilate the underside of Zinc plus.

On vertical walls (slope 90°).

For non vertical walls (slope 60° to 90°) a water proof membrane has to be installed behind the ventilation cavity.

Can be used for both exterior and interior applications.

The substructure (not supplied) can be either galvanized steel or aluminium rail.
Rail spacing: maximum of 600 mm apart.                                                                                      

Load bearing structure
It can consist of:
  • Masonry or reinforced concrete wall
  • Main steel framing (Please consult VMZINC).

Management of expansion

  • Vertical laying :
    Fixed section at the top (maximum authorised gripped length: 3 m). Expanding section at the bottom.
  • Horizontal laying :
    Fixed section at the centre (maximum authorised gripped length: 3m). Expanding section at the extremities.

Install fixed points with self drilling screws. Sliding points, whose diameter is adapted to the expansion differential between the substructure and the cladding, has to be pre-drilled in the sine wave profile cladding (about 2 mm greater than the diameter of the screws for wood and metal substructures in galvanised steel and aluminium).



Fixing screws
VMZINC recommends using:
- lacquered screws to match zinc's color.
- self-drilling screws for wood and steel.


The VMZINC sine wave profile is fixed using structural screws(1) at each support, in every second wave bottom. Where there is overlapping, two screws(1) are placed successively in addition to non-structural screws(2) which will be fixed between the structural fixing elements.

Note: The design of the framework and the dimensioning of its fixing elements are not part of the range of services offered by VMZINC.

Screws for wood framework

  • drilling capacity to: 2,25 mm.
  • minimum dimensions: 4,8/35.

VMZINC recommends the use of 18/8 stainless steel screws for treated woods.
Zinc coated (galvanised ) steel screws can be used for untreated wood at the company's discretion. The installation company must check that the loads are compatible with the stresses caused.


Screws for metal substructure

  • drilling capacity: 3,5 mm
  • minimum dimenstions: 5,5/25

VMZINC recommends the use of 18/8 stainless steel screws.
Zinc coated (galvanised ) steel screws can be used for single skin cladding in the case of Zinc coated steel frameworks. This is at the company's discretion.
